Web Development — the full picture, certified

Certified by SoloLearn in July 2025. Beyond individual languages, this certificate verifies the complete discipline: how websites are planned, built, tested, and deployed to the live internet — the skill behind both products I have shipped.

§ More than the sum of three languages

Knowing HTML, CSS and JavaScript separately is like knowing debit rules, credit rules and the accounting equation separately — necessary, but not yet the profession. Web development as a discipline is the integration: planning a multi-page site, structuring its files, writing maintainable code, testing across devices and browsers, and finally deploying — taking a folder of files on one laptop and publishing it to a real URL that anyone on Earth can visit.

The SoloLearn Web Development course is built around exactly that integration. It walked through how the web actually works — clients, servers, requests and responses — before layering the practical craft: structuring sites with clean HTML, styling and responsiveness with CSS, and behaviour with JavaScript, all in the context of complete projects rather than isolated snippets. Completing it certified the theoretical and practical understanding together, which is why it meant more to me than any single-language badge.

§ How I earned it

I finished the SoloLearn Web Development course on 13 July 2025 — four days after completing the Mimo HTML, CSS and JavaScript tracks. The sequence was intentional: Mimo gave me depth in each language; SoloLearn gave me the width — how they combine into an actual development workflow. SoloLearn’s community discussion threads were an unexpected bonus: when a lesson concept was unclear, someone else’s question — and a better programmer’s answer — was usually already there. Learning in public is underrated.

By the end of the course I could plan a multi-page site from a blank folder: shared structure across pages, one stylesheet, scripts wired to the right elements, images optimised, everything checked on phone and desktop widths before calling it done. That checklist sounds mundane. It is also, almost word for word, the process my brother and I later followed to ship our first real product.

§ The certificate, proven in production

A certification earns its value at deployment time. Ours came with Handy Tools: nine HTML pages, one stylesheet, nine JavaScript files, an organised media folder — planned exactly the way the SoloLearn course taught. And then the real curriculum began: our first hosting platform’s limitations pushed us to a modern GitHub + Vercel deployment workflow, where pushing code automatically updates the live site. When the deployed site threw 404 errors one night, the fix — restructuring the repository and correcting absolute paths to relative ones — was a lesson no course contains, learned under the gentle pressure of a deadline.

With LearnFinity, the discipline scaled from static pages to a full-stack platform. The planning habits are identical even though the technology grew: structure first, style second, behaviour third, test everything, then ship.

Why it matters for accounting: “deployment thinking” is exactly what modern financial systems demand — changes must be tested, versioned, approved and released without breaking the live environment. Accountants who understand how software ships are better auditors, better implementers and better partners to every IT team they will ever work with.

§ What this rounded off

With this certificate, my foundation stack was complete: Python for data and automation thinking, HTML/CSS/JavaScript for the web itself, and web development practice to bind them. Everything I build now — including the portfolio you are reading — stands on that stack. And everything I plan to build for the accounting profession, from automation scripts to analysis tools, will stand on it too.
